More space without losing what made the house worth keeping
Queenslanders are worth holding onto. The ceilings, the airflow, the way they sit on a block — there's a reason they've lasted a hundred years in North Queensland's climate. But they weren't built for the way families live now.
This project was about adding the space the family needed — a proper extension and a kitchen that works — without cutting corners on the existing structure or compromising the character of what was already there.
One crew, one fixed price, and a schedule that kept disruption predictable from the first cut to final coat.
Steel frame, new floor, built over an occupied home
The extension went up in steel — framed, levelled, and tied to the existing structure so the two parts of the home move as one. Every bearer, every stud, every connection point checked against the plan before the next stage started.
Working over an occupied home means keeping the site tight, the hours predictable, and the mess contained. The family kept living in the existing part of the house while the new section went up around them.
-
Structural prep
New footings, bearer layout, and floor structure established before the frame went up — everything measured twice, poured once.
-
Steel frame
Red steel frame cut and assembled on site — framed to the engineer's plan and levelled before the cladding went on.
-
Fit-out & finish
Kitchen, joinery, and internal finishes coordinated under one crew — one schedule, one point of contact, no chasing trades.
A kitchen that works the way this family actually cooks
The finished kitchen opens the heart of the home — vaulted ceiling, custom timber joinery, stone benchtops, and integrated appliances in a layout that handles the way the family uses it every day.
The ceiling line follows the original Queenslander pitch, so the new space feels like it belongs rather than something bolted on. Natural light from both sides, and a flow through to the living area that wasn't there before.
The kind of result that changes how a family uses their home — not just for the next few years, but for the next few decades.
Talk To The Team
The same standard on every job, no matter the size
Every measurement gets checked. Every connection gets inspected. Every stage gets signed off before the next one starts. That's not just how we work on big commercial jobs — it's how we work on every home we touch.
Matt's name is on this house. The crew's name is on this house. That's the accountability that comes with a small team that doesn't sub out the responsibility.
If you're thinking about an extension or a renovation, get in touch and we'll talk through what your build looks like.
